Finding the right Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution can be a lengthy process, but it doesn't have to be complex.
Finding the right Digital Asset Management (DAM)solution – it can be a lengthy process, but it doesn't have to be complex.
Sure, there are many important factors to take into account. For example, which needs does the solution need to address? Who are your project’s stakeholders? What are your most pressing DAM pain points as a business? And is the solution going to be able to address the potential problems or demands of the future?
But once you have taken the time to establish the answers to these questions, it should be plain sailing. Yes, there may be a couple of bumps in the road – perhaps you realize along the way that the needs of an additional department should also be taken into account in your demands on the solution, for example – but there are resources which can help you identify and focus in on the right DAM solution for you, eliminating vendors who don't speak to your needs, and identifying those you’d like to begin a conversation with.
Impartial evaluations of the DAM vendor landscape is a great way to get started. For example, the Vendor Selection Matrix - Digital Asset Management SaaS And Software: The Top 20 Global Vendors 2019 from Research in Action (RIA) examines the 20 most prolific global DAM providers, assessing their pros and cons, and proving a ranking matrix which can be easily and quickly digested.
There are even resources around which allow you to get behind the scenes on how such evaluations are created. For instance this on demand webinar from Peter O’Neill, the lead analyst and researcher behind the analysis, which discusses their research techniques as well as providing tips for conducting your own search.
When it comes to a more local market, if it's Europe or the German speaking landscape which interests you, similar resources are available for this region:
Of course, RIA’s selection matrices are not the only resources out there that you could use to help you with your decision process, and I’d recommend taking in a range of guidance resources, but it is one of the rare industry analysis firms which can offer you an entirely impartial overview of the landscape.
The two DAM vendor matrices mentioned in this blog are built entirely off the back of exclusive buyer surveys of between 750 and 1,500 business and IT managers from enterprise and SMB businesses, which make up 60% of the research findings, plus extensive interviews with manufacturers, users and analysts. Overall, experts reviewed more than 65,000 data points to come to their conclusions across the two selection matrices – a pretty strong foundation from which to make a confident decision when looking to update your asset management capabilities, or even start from scratch.
Before I round off this blog post, I hope you can forgive me for wanting to inlcude a small plug for censhare. I know, I am biased, but the facts do speak for themselves. Happily, censhare appears in both the global and Germany vendor selection matrices for Digital Asset Management, consistently ranked as a top 5 solution. You can view free summaries of the two selection matrices on our resource page.
